Networking and servers • Re: Router board for project

Hello,

I thought here would be a good place to get some input about a related electronic hardware project, namely a router board to make a custom router project. It should have several eth ports, support wifi, have enough power and space to eventually run security apps (such as a Snort IDS for instance). It can be powered by a RPI processor or any other and able to install a Linux OS.

The idea is to have all devices at home behind that router over which there's complete control, to which the internet access would be connected (a Thomson device), or at least the current router which would then be doing no routing at all, just serving as a bridge to the internet (wifi switched off).

Several eth ports would allow to have different subnets (for routing fun) and it would be nice to have two routable wifi AP although optional (for a Pico private wifi net for instance).

Any suggestions for such router hardware or something close to it ?

Cheers.
