The problem is that for my application I the highest version of Python I can use is 3.10.
Of course at one level the Python infrastructure of virtual environments might be an ideal way of coping with being 'pinned' to an old version of Python.
But just to note that the version of Python3 shipping with Debian 13 'Trixie' is python3 (3.13.5-1). And that a pre-release of RasPiOS Trixie for Raspberry Pi hardware is presently being tested elsewhere in these forums, leading to anticipation that RasPiOS Trixie based on Debian 13 will become the supported OS 'Real Soon Now.' (Almost certainly during CY2025).
Maybe fixing the application code now will save you ongoing inconvenience due to divergence into the future?
