sandyol It looks like the 4 channel format that I need for the image processing is messing with the recording. your code ran with no problems, except for the 'picam2(close)' which gave an error (NameError: name 'close' is not defined).
therealdavidp Loads of good points there. I may reconstruct my program, and investigate which alternatives you give work best. For some reason, with your program, I couldn't exit with space, had to close the window, then Ctl-C, which obviously messed up the recording.
For context, the program buffers previous frames which are then blended together, so, in one mode, objects placed in front of the camera gradually appear after 10 secs, in the other mode, they take about a minute to appear, but persist after moving, and gradually fade. Recording isn't essential, but I'd like to show people what on earth I'm doing.
