Yeah, I saw that.

Not sure how long it would take to pay back the cost of the unit and also not sure what practical use such a data centre would be given the relatively low compute power of each Pi and the limited internet bandwidth available to most domestic premises.

Then there's the customers obvious misunderstanding: "we're not burning any gases, so it's green – it's environmentally friendly". You're not burning gasses but the electricity has to come from somewhere and that source might be burning gas, coal, or oil.

Big data centres dumping waste heat into communal systems (as mentioned later in the article) instead of lakes or the atmosphere seems to me the better way to go.
It's greener, big plants are slightly more efficient than small combi boilers
