Just out of interest, for all those who mentioned a 12-36v DC USB-PD PS, what would you want to use as upstream connectors? Croc clips?
Screw terminals for preference, or DC barrel jack.
I'm rather assuming that any dc PSU will be sold in either HAT format, or as an unenclosed PCB (perhaps with an optional case).
So a DC barrel jack is likely to stick out too much past the edge of the board - same problem as connectors on the Pi being on two or more sides. I think screw terminals are probably the safest option, and seem to find quite a lot of favour.

My own current solution to powering Pis from dc is to either use some form of 24V to 5V converter - either DIN rail or chassis mount, or I have a "universal" PCB which accepts dc-dc converters from around 1 watt to 25 watt. All those options have screw terminals of some kind.
