After trying to support Apple's HEVC video setting, which is H.265 I had to abandon my efforts (2 weeks of frustration) with Wayland as it just didn't seem to be mature enough yet, so I fell back on X11 which has been working well supporting PySide6 and vlc. I'm no expert in this area so cannot really describe the video processing pipline that I am using with any accuracy. However I did get it generate Gemini to generate a block diagram of the layers of installation..
I have also attached the literature that I got Gemini Deep Research to generate that got me where I am currently. I got Deep Research to generate a step-by-step recipe document, using X11, however you'll need to remove the .png extension. I could supply the failing one it generated for wayland, if interested.
I get identical behaviour when playing the same videos manually using the vlc application on the CM5.
