I have one and it creates enough resistance to drop the voltage 0.1 or more. When used with the official Pi 5 5.1 volt power supply, the device drops the voltage too far for a Pi 5. Some other devices, including an inline switch, create the same problem. About half my USB cables fail in the same way.I am using a usb-tool that shows me the voltage, current (mA) and power (mW) that goes throught it.
If you have a separate electronic volt meter, you can see the voltage drop at the 5 volt GPIO pins. Test at boot and under load. Plug in a disk or whatever you need. For car based systems, also test the 12 volt supply drop when starting the car.
