In my example from above I take two images with the same settings (same shutter speed etc) but with a different resolution. The output has the same brightness though. Is there something that I'm missing? Some gain setting that has been reduced? Or maybe some other post processing step?

So in that quad we've got a red and a green value but not a blue value. In the adjacent quad on the right we've got a green and a blue value but not a red value. Then (off the sensor) there's some form of demosaic'ing to get the missing blue (and red) values?R R

That's super interesting! Thanks for sharing it.It also allows for HDR to work with the 4 pixels having different exposure times with minimal spatial shift between them.
