I suspect you'll find that /sys/class/backlight/rpi_backlight doesn't exist.
The drivers were updated as part of the shift from firmware display control to Linux kernel, and it would now normally be /sys/class/backlight/10-0045/brightness, as the driver is on I2C bus 10, and address 0x45.
