It'll be the same on any device if you use Linux (in general). In Windows it is quite often needed too, I now I use the Terminal to perform some tasks.Requiring the entry of code into a terminal window to interface the Raspberry Pi with accessories to me is a real roadblock. So I'm selling all my Raspberry pi and Aduino stuff. I'll probably list all of it on Ebay over next few days if anyone wants it. Its like a box full so should be a good bargain for someone.
The easiest way for a NAS (Pi, X86 PC, Linux,Windows) is just to install some software.
TrueNAS Core, Openmediavault, unbraid etc.
If it is images then there are Google Photos type programs, for Movies, eBooks, Music there are many, e.g. JellyFin, Music assistant, Nextcloud.
If it is just to share a drive, check the back of your router for a USB slot, a few of mine can do it for you, even actually as a media server.
Or in Windows, click on drive, click share (though using a folder is often better, multiple drives, just mount the drives as folder in the other drive), add users if you want people to have different passwords, or Public/Guest to leave it anonymous, limit as you need.
Even easier if buy a NAS, Ugreen seems to have some Intel based ones that keep popping up in my feeds
