"A bit" is a bit of an understatement

I can think of a few more:

• What's the environment?
• Is there power at the remote end?
• Is there network at the remote end?
• One remote location or several?
• What sample rate are you aiming for/requiring?

At 50+ feet the usual candidates (I2C, SPI, etc) are out. That leaves serial, ethernet, and WiFi.* All of which will likely need some intelligence at the remote end to convert from what the sensor speaks natively to what can transmit and receive over the required distance.
