Another way you could really reduce EMC is to have a ring architecture a few bits wide going from Pico to Pico, then turning back on itself and going through the same Picos in the opposite direction again on different pins. Then none of your lines will be more than an inch or two long. 100Mbps would then be easily achievable, at the expense of more complex software and dedicating a PIO to do the drop/insert function.
