Thanks everyone for your replies, it’s really interesting to see so many different points of view.

What I mainly take away is the idea of not trying to go too fast. I clearly had the tendency to want to understand everything at once (OS, terminal, SSH, projects…), and in the end it just gets confusing. So yes, learning to walk before running is probably the best advice.

For the hardware, I’m going to start with something simple and comfortable, with a screen, keyboard and mouse, just to avoid adding unnecessary difficulties at the beginning. Starting with the graphical interface also feels more reassuring to me.

You’re also right about the official documentation: I probably skimmed through it too quickly, whereas it really deserves some time and attention. And the point about backups is something I hadn’t really thought about, so it’s good to keep that in mind from the start.

In short, I’ll move forward step by step, do some testing, accept making a few mistakes, and see where it takes me.
Thanks again for taking the time to help beginners, it’s really motivating 🙂
