Does it have to be a Pico?

IIRC at least one of the GPIO backends supported by GPIOZero has support for remote GPIO: https://gpiozero.readthedocs.io/en/stab ... _gpio.html and https://gpiozero.readthedocs.io/en/stab ... _gpio.html

So if you use a flagship Pi model (not sure about the Pi5) you get remote GPIO without needing ethernet to serial hardware and you control it the same way as you would local GPIO from python.
Yes, can be use any Zero, Pico, Pico 2, Nano etc...as long use Ethernet not WIFI.

Extra info: I use this Remote I/O for my train with all Switch Track.
- Able to turn straight or Curve with driver IC.
- Sensors on both straight and Curve to be sure move is complete with optocouplers.
- Send to turn track and read sensor if the sensor is not detected as expected then alert us with "MALFUNACTION" display.

I have 33 switches on layouts. ;) One PICO or else PER switch track. mean will make 33 pico/zero... with network switches.

Thank you again!
