No, it's not needed. But that doesn't mean that people won't prefer to do that. I am not going to judge the OP on what conclusions they arrived at or why. I can only say I would like to be able to cross-compile from Native Windows for a Pi Zero or any Pi SBC regardless of what other people's views are on how it could otherwise be done.What I (and others on this thread) are saying is that it is not necessary, and OP seems to have mistakenly come to the conclusion that it is. The Pi Zero is not an embedded device such that cross-compilation is a needed thing.
What's not getting answered is how to do that.
Cross-compiling isn't necessary if you choose a path which doesn't need cross-compilation but it is necessary if you want to use Native Windows to build executables for a Pi SBC.
It's not a difficult question in itself - How to set-up a Native Windows cross-compiler to create executables for a Pi SBC ?
Maybe we should start with something simpler - Can a Native Windows cross-compiler be set-up to create executables for a Pi SBC ?
