I've been using "msmtp" as a command line client with some success. After a fiddle it talks to Microsoft's Office365 and does the newer authentication process Oauth2.0.
It's main bonus for me it that it's easy to forward event alerts from one of my Pi systems via email to me when I'm travelling. Just need to pipe the embryo email file content into it, in my case via a script and away it goes.
Wrote a simple SMTP relayer to also forward MotionEye alerts through it after Microsoft made it all "better" with Oauth2.0 and stuffed MotionEye's useful feature.
