Thank you for the reply hortimech. I will offer a read only share to photographs and music for the Win machine. Update access will be only Linux machines through NFS.
The screen sharing bit is the limitation. I have machines across two buildings. This morning it is raining. Instead of walking through the cold wet wind, I prefer to open a remote screen.
If file sharing through something like TightVNC will not work, I may have to combine screen sharing with an NFS share then use Nemo on the share. It would mean a massive increase in network traffic if i tried to do everything through NFS. Doing some types of searches through VNC and the transfers through NFS could minimise network delays.
After reading the TightVNC Web site, it looks like they are now Windows only and everything new is proprietary. Forget TightVNC.
There are some Web based remote management tools of interest. They are too big for anything outside a Pi 5 booted from NVMe through PCIe 3. Plus you have to use Docker and similar rubbish. More overheads. And they have to replace your tools with their versions but they do not have their versions of the tools I use. Not using those options.
Use VNC viewer to find the right directory and files. Switch to NFS/Nemo to transfer. I installed TigerVNC viewer in my non Pi Linux. Will switch on VNC in a Pi and test when I have time.
