My Pi5 8GB was exactly the same as yours and didn't seem to want to auto-update.My Pi5 Bookworm hasCode:
rpi-eeprom-updateBOOTLOADER: up to date CURRENT: Wed 27 Aug 19:01:47 UTC 2025 (1756321307) LATEST: Wed 27 Aug 19:01:47 UTC 2025 (1756321307) RELEASE: latest (/usr/lib/firmware/raspberrypi/bootloader-2712/latest) Use raspi-config to change the release.
Code:
sudo rpi-eeprom-update -aI've been doing a lot of x264 video encoding lately using ffmpeg and that sped up by nearly 12% as a consequence which was an unexpected surprise.
A friend is running the identical Bash script to me for video conversion on a hexcore AMD Ryzen 5 5600X running Kubuntu. I run my Pi5 at 2.75GHz and it's now exactly 1/4 of the speed he gets when encoding the same source. I think that's pretty darned impressive, especially considering that my Pi5 is only drawing 12 Watts while doing it.
