Troubleshooting • Re: Video/audio issues

Your original issue of improperly detecting the screen and having missing audio is generally because the display EDID can't be read. No EDID on any standard DRM driver results in 1024x768 and no audio due to https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v6.17. ... #L650-L652. It's unlikely to be related to driver issues. The same thing could happen over DP.

HDMI is used on the Pi specifically because more households have TVs than monitors, and TVs have HDMI inputs rather than anything else. That's the reality. You are totally welcome to use some other SBC if the Pi doesn't fit your requirements.

Now if you really wanted to complain about interoperability and closed specs, try MIPI with D-PHY and DSI.
I see. Thank you.
I was just disappointed, as I saw the device being hyped by people I trusted. That being said, I have it working now, albeit at 720p, and the audio works. Oddly, the TV volume control works, but the volume control in the VLC has no effect.
Sorry if I came on a bit strong, and thanks again for giving me the low-down on the issue.
