the latest uses labwc
so
system = /etc/xdg/labwc/autostart
user = ~/.config/labwc/autostart

for user you might need to create
thanks, i tried both but in both cases before the browser starts i get a dialog to unlock some keyring....edit finally found that adding --password-store=basic to the global autostart suppresses the keyring thing

That's not a good idea. Anything in the global autostart affects all users not just the one being used to run chromium. Put that in the user's autostart and make damned sure the is nothing in their password store that isn't needed to run the browser.

And while you're at it disable passwordless sudo for that user too.
