hippie I'd like to thank you for your response. I was able to get a handle on what was happening, and it turns out to not being something that is solvable through software methods. The Pi5 that I am working with was "willed" to me by a third party. This person failed to mention that it had had numerous thermal events.
The short story here is that the voltage regulator section is suffering from switching issues and takes a little longer to come up to proper stable voltage, causing some timing issues down the line. Because my eyes are too old to play with smaller surface mount parts, I will just relegate the board to my stack of relics.
