I followed the instructions here from roliver-rpi which worked for me https://github.com/raspberrypi-ui/squeekboard/issues/10. Compiled successfully on a Pi 5.
Originally I was trying to compile from the original Phosh source which crashed for me also.
Now runs for me and I can show/hide the keyboard when running Chrome in full screen mode (via lisgd gestures).
However, I still can't get squeekboard to appear automatically when tapping inside a browser text field in full screen mode (which I previously could get working in non-full screen mode, although annoyingly not any more!!!).
