(or could there be) something similar that works with Bluetooth keyboards and mice?
Could there be? Sure, but Bluetooth dongles are readily available and cheap, so that's much less interesting to me. There isn't much out there that does USB to BT/BLE, hence why I made my project.
redefining the device as a composite HID device with two HID reports. One for mouse (as above) and a second for keyboard.
My approach is (in my opinion, anyway) much more interesting than that for the USB->BLE direction. It reads the HID report descriptors from attached devices and passes them more or less directly (with some minor processing to get them compatible with GATT), so there's not need to do anything difference for mice, keyboards, gamepads, etc. It works with any HID device and potentially with more than one attached through a hub, provided you can power everything through the hub.
