i dont know what data you are storing on this PI, but if the answer is "none"....
you can turn on the overlay file system. This makes the SD card file system read-only, and thus not affected by power outages.
the primary drawback is you have to turn it off (and reboot a couple of times) to update the PI.
but, the net result would be power outages will have no effect. your cron job could go away
