As James said an interesting thread. We do contract design for some fairly well known OEMs and used to use x86 SBCs. When we first mentioned the possibility of using Pi4s this was met with horror - "aren't those just for educational applications ?" so the message certainly hasn't got across worldwide. Of course the lack of availability of Pis for industrial users during Chipagedon didn't help as x86 SBCs were still available, as were some other ARM based SBCs.You say that 70% of sales have gone to commercial customers. That is good news as it surely helps to fund the original more "humanitarian" aims of the whole "PI project".
But....who are they? What are they doing with? What products are they using and how? Can any of these ideas be reused elsewhere? Where are the case studies? I know that you do have a section on the website that mentions industrial; but it's small.
But our clients usually never want to admit they use design houses, and certainly do not want their products splashed on the RPL pages.
I suspect this is more often than not the case and hence the industrial section is likely to remain quite barren.
But if you have any professional audio equipment and open it up to find a Pi inside, there's a chance it may have been designed by us
Yes! Absolutely!
...and it will take time and lots of exposure before those people are comfortable with it....easier and less risk to go with what is known....and runs zero risk of getting you fired!
And therein lies the problem...how to make that sort of decision maker more aware...without other similar guys and girls doing more show and tell....
Sadly; I'm not likely to have the space or the money for any pro audio gear any time soon!.
