Sadly it doesn't support 90 and 270 rotation on rpi 5 so I gave up.
Correct. DRM doesn't have a way to rotate framebuffers by 90/270 degrees. I opened up a thread about this a while back and developed a workaround on Pi4 and Pi3. On the Pi5 your only option AFAIK is to decode into a GL texture and rotate that. I can basically play 2160x3840@60 that way.
I just got into the world of DRM and hardware acceleration. It's all very blurry and abstract, so I had a hard time reading your thread :D. I started with the drmkms man page when I discovered hello_drmprime. I noticed that my rpi5 always fallback to software decoding when I try to read h265 videos with my minimal video player using openGL/Gstreamer in C. I will try to decode into a GL texture + rotation , thank you for the tips.
