From OP's initial description, USB is not really needed. Some kind of power measurement is being done. When I did low power consumption testing on a bare Pico (RP2040), I blinked the LED n times (like BIOS blinking on Dell PCs) to separate different configs, each config is run for n seconds and I capture some data during those periods.
