I had this same challenge, here is how I addressed it.
The red and black wires are inserted into the power connector with a little snap fit tab. Using a small instrument like a needle, you can press the tab, release the pin, insert it into another position, and ensure the tab is engaged. In this way you can change the pinout of the connector.
If you simply move the black wire from the outer to the middle position, you can still use the same connector, but now plug it on to pins 4 (5V to red wire), 6 (GND to black wire), and 8 (obstructed), leaving pin 2 available for other 5V use.
