I see, take that it as a recommendation, not absolute maximum, you have to experiment, it's an average current.
In case of bus conflict it's not so bad because usually is not continuous.
Got more measurements with another board (with stronger LDO regulator) at different drive strengths,
short to ground:
2mA drive >> 21 mA
4mA drive >> 31 mA
8mA drive >> 51 mA
12mA drive >> 60 mA
It got a little bit warmer, otherwise fine.
