The easiest option is to download the video and then watch it.
I managed to watch YouTube 720p 60p smoothly with MPV on my 2GB Pi 4 but I had to put 256mb of mem_gpu for some of the image buffers to work..
The bad thing is that if you are one of those who likes videos to appear as viewed on YouTube, with MPV it is not like that because it is something private that does not use your YouTube account.
The other option I found, and since I use dual boot, is on Android TV 15. A modified open source YouTube app.
In addition to blocking ads, it also allows you to use the H264 (AVC) codec and can run 1080p at 60fps.

In Firefox, I noticed more stability at 50fps, but it doesn't feel as fluid as I was looking for.
