I think you need to override the 4K resolution and set it to 1080 HD for smooth playback.Hi there guys.
I was hoping that you could provide some help / advice for a strange issue that
my friend is experiencing with his Raspberry Pi 5.
I've setup his Raspberry Pi 5 with both Retropie and PiMiga on separate SD cards.
They work perfectly on my TV (A Sony Bravia KDL-40CX523).
Issue:
The video / sound / game playback is slow, stuttery and totally out of sync.
This happens on both OS's on the affected TV.
I believe that this is a video mismatch / video sync error.
Which would explain the issues that we're experiencing.
The latency / choppiness / slow down of the system and esp the games.
Troubleshooting:
1. The Pi and both OS's work perfectly on my TV (Sony Bravia KDL-40CX523).
2. We've bought a new cable (Amazon Basic, HDMI to Micro-HDMI)
Again works well on my TV.
3. We've tried to change the resolution and sync rate of the affected TV
The Samsung 55" 4K TV
However it seems to resolutely refuse to allow us to change the display resolution.
or the sync rate.
4. We've tried the Pi on another TV upstairs (another basic 4K TV
Make: Hi-Sense, Model: Unknown ATM) and the same thing happens.
5. Despite this, I'm convinced that there's nothing wrong with the Pi or the
new cabling, just the display options (or lack of them).
6. We also tried the Pi on a monitor at work - again worked flawlessly
Perfect video and sound. No latency or choppiness.
Questions:
1. Has anyone else had the same issues (particularly with the same model TV)
and were you able to fix it ?
If so, how ?
2. Does anyone else have this TV ?
Can you / have you been able to change the display resolution of this TV set ?
If so how ?
3. What else could be causing these issues ?
TIA for any help or advice.
Details:
Raspberry Pi: Model 5 - 8 GB RAM
TV model: Samsung UE55RU7100KXXU
Since you are having trouble doing this, you may need to override the EDID provided by the TV.
