Yes the Mac is way ahead on this. On Windows you can use ASIO4ALL and on Linux Pipewire to give roughly the same thing but both need setting up manually.On the Mac it's possible to aggregate all Usb audio devices, like a Usb Synth, multiple Sound cards, etc.
Then open a DAW, and choose the newly created Agregate device, and you get immediate access to all i/o of all usb devices, midi, cv, all.
