The DM556T control signals are optically isolated. It is not necessary to connect DM556T ground to Pi ground.All grounds (Pi, MOSFET board, DM556T power supply) must be connected. DM556T needs 5V logic (your MOSFET board should handle this conversion from 3.3V). Last but not least, verify coils are connected properly (use a multimeter to check continuity between pairs).
