Alright,

I directly manipulted the /etc/shadow... what a mess, I'm logged in.

I would be still thankful if anybody knows which files to manipulate to set a static IP.
Once again, no commands or tuis allowed, I have only access to my filesystem via SDcard.

It was pretty easy to do that some years ago.

As for the lack of a default user, that was removed several years ago. IIRC it was due to a change in EU regulations. There are three common ways to set this up:
  • userconf
  • the first boot wizzard but that needs an attached keyboard and monitor
  • As part of the process of writing the OS to your boot media via Raspberry Pi Imager.
I generally use the third one.

For network troubleshooting I find the most useful device is a USB to 3.3v TTL UART. One tweak to config.txt* and you can log in over that.

*: not on the Pi5. It has a separate debug UART that is always enabled.
