In general 32 bit framebuffers are XRGB (or some other combination of those letters). This is 24 bits of colour and 8 bits of spacing. This is done to improve performance as accessing 24 bits make take more than one read/write.
The monitor is saying it supports 24 bit colour. This is supplied by the hdmi/vga/... connector. The hardware converts the composited images to signal for the appropriate display.
