Tactical defending in EA FC 25 is all about positioning, decision-making, and FC 25 Coins controlled player movements rather than relying on the automatic or button-mashing tactics that were more common in previous installments. Understanding tactical defending is crucial for maintaining a solid defense and preventing your opponent from creating dangerous opportunities.

Here’s an overview of the basics of tactical defending:

1. Positioning is Key
Stay between your opponent and the goal: The primary objective is to block the attacking player’s route to the goal. Always try to stay in a position where you can intercept passes or block shots, while making it difficult for the attacking player to get past you.
Use jockeying effectively: Jockeying allows you to control your player's movement more precisely and stay in front of the attacker. Use L2 (PS)/LT (Xbox) to jockey, and adjust your position gradually to keep the attacker in front of you.
Maintain defensive shape: Ensure that your defenders are not pulled out of position by the opponent's dribbles or runs. Keep your defense compact and don’t rush in; stay patient and let your opponent make mistakes.
2. Use Manual Defending
While automatic defending (such as the AI making tackles or interceptions for you) can help in some situations, manual defending gives you more control and ensures that you’re making the right moves at the right time. Manual tackling and interception can often be more effective than waiting for the AI to intervene.

Tackling: Use Circle (PS)/B (Xbox) for a standing tackle and Square (PS)/X (Xbox) for a sliding tackle. Try to time your tackles well and aim for the ball rather than diving in recklessly.
Interceptions: You can use R1 (PS)/RB (Xbox) to make your defender move into position for interceptions. Don’t just run at the ball carrier; instead, try to predict their next move and cut off passing lanes or shooting angles.
3. Patience and Timing
Don’t rush in: One of the biggest mistakes in tactical defending is rushing in to make a tackle. This can leave you vulnerable to skill moves or through balls. Instead, stay patient, track your opponent’s movements, and wait for the right moment to challenge them.
Use the right defensive tool at the right time: If you are closing down a player with the ball, try jockeying to maintain pressure but avoid rushing for a tackle. If the player tries to take a shot, then use a well-timed tackle or block.
4. Use the Right Defensive Player
CDM & CBs: Central defenders (CBs) and defensive midfielders (CDMs) are typically more effective at blocking and intercepting passes, so use them to cover the central areas of the pitch. They are also your last line of defense against through balls and crosses.
Full-backs & Wingers: Full-backs are crucial in dealing with wingers and overlapping runs. Position them well to cover the flanks, and make sure they don’t get too high up the pitch when your opponent is attacking.
Goalkeeper (GK): Don’t forget your goalkeeper is an integral part of your defense. Use manual goalkeeper movement (L1/LB + Right Stick) to position the GK and ensure they cover the correct angles. Additionally, always be mindful of the goalkeeper's positioning during crosses or through balls.
5. Track Runs and Close Down Space
Track runs: Constantly keep an eye on the attacking player's runs, especially from wingers or strikers looking to exploit spaces behind your defensive line. Use the right stick to move your defenders towards these spaces or use L1 (PS)/LB (Xbox) to select a nearby defender who can track the run.
Close down space: Rather than rushing directly at the ball carrier, use the jockey or contain button to slowly close down space. This forces the attacker to make decisions under pressure and increases your chances of intercepting the ball or forcing them into a mistake.
6. Use the "Contain" Button
Contain (Hold X or Square): Holding the X (PS) or Square (Xbox) button will trigger your player to move into a contain position, shadowing the attacker. It’s an essential tool in tactical defending because it enables you to apply pressure on the opponent without overcommitting.
Use combined with jockey: Contain works well with jockeying, allowing your defender to stay close to the opponent while maintaining balance and control. You can quickly switch to a tackle or interception if the opportunity arises.
7. Effective Use of the Defensive Third
In the defensive third (the final third of the pitch near your own goal), staying organized and cheap FC 25 Coins compact is essential. When defending in this area:
