Yes, you need more to figure it out. However you don't need all that to just do it again when you know how. Separating the pin was just because of capacitor (he decided not to remove) that would possibly make the investigation more fuzzy. Quite likely the capacitor may stay there when you know what you are doing.I've just seen the whole presentation (video in pure English) and I can say one needs more that a Debug Probe, there is a high speed differential current probe (like one I used recently to profile low power), needs to separate a soldered a pin, and some other skills.
