No shame in that.I'm not a Linux pro and try to avoid CLI whenever possible.
That's why gparted would be my preferred choice, allowing me to see which device it is, selecting the format I want to use etc in a graphical environment.
Whilst, I no longer do it for a living; I've been working with Linux pretty much since the start and prior to that, I was a Unix techie. When I first started, there were really no GUIs as we know them today. So, I am obviously quite happy with a CLI and for many tasks, it's still my preferred interface. But I too tend to use gparted. I also use some other graphical tools if I find them useful. In my galley; I own a whisk and am pretty proficient with it...but that doesn't stop me using a food processor when I think it's the best tool for the job.
Use whatever tools works for you.
