nope! Such statement is way to generic! There are 40-pin eDP or LVDS displays around and none (!) of them can be connected to GPIO!You can connect a 40-pin touchscreen via GPIO, ..
'40-pin' is just meaningless as it gives no data on the electrical interface.
@OP: figure out the display model that you have in front of you, post the data sheet and people might be able to help.
