That was one of the websites I came across. I meant to say physical pins 6 and 8 that I was using. Those instructions are for a Raspberry PI 4 B. I assumed it would be similar to a Raspberry Pi 5.What instructions were you following?
dtoverlay=gpio-shutdown and enable_uart=1 are not going to affect an LED attached to pins 5&6.

In which case the LED needs to be on GPIO 14 (pin 8).
