If I double click the file the script runs as expected. Any advice?

Not immediately but I do have a question or two:
  1. Which model Pi
  2. Which OS and named release of that OS are you running?
  3. If your OS was installed prior to October/November 2024 and is RPiOS Bookworm when was it last updated?
  4. Which model Pi are you using?
  5. Have you made any changes to the Desktop settings via raspi-config?
RPiOS Bookworm post October/November 2024 defaults to Wayland with labwc. Prior to that it was either X11 with lxde (all Pi models with 1GB RAM or less) or Wayland with Wayfire (All Pi models with 2GB RAM or more). Bullseye and earlier default to X11 with lxde on all models.

You can force X11 via sudo raspi-config then "6", then "A6", then reboot when prompted.

Wayland with labwc is not yet covered in my guide (an update is in progress but as yet there is no ETA - my time and energy is limited and subject to other demands) but I have covered it here: Autostart with labwc
