katak255, that link was great as buried way down in there was a mention of putting a 1n4148st diode on the DRV. Now, your never going to believe this, but in July 2023 I bought some diodes off eBay for another project and Sellotaped to the invoice was, what I was somewhat bemused by at the time, a "Free sample with respect". Now why a free sample of a ransom diode would be of much use to anyone, I never could understand, but I put it in my pile of "just in case" parts just in case I ever found a use. You'll never guess what?! The free sample was a 1n4148! This kind of serendipity never happens to me; it's normally the one I don't have!
Anyway, popped it in and it did seem to help. Had it working for a while on a breadboard and thought it was solved! So then, just for fun, I tried taking the diode out, and it continued working... Moved it off the breadboard and it now doesn't work! This kinda thing is really frustrating; in the coding world it either works or it doesn't, it seems in electronics the time of day has an impact! So, did the diode fix it? Do I leave it in, take it out?
gmx, that makes sense about the resistor, but does that mean a resistor in my circuit would help (notwithstanding the above about the diode)?
And in relation to "a capacitor can make it worse"; why?
