Slice the 40 pin header into pieces then remove each pin one-by-one, tidying up the holes afterwards is easy with a solder sucker.
Try not to let the soldering iron tip touch any of the board's solder before its been diluted with tin-lead solder, heat the header pins up on the un-soldered part of the pin, add some tin-lead solder to the existing joint, then pull the pin out. OR .... use lead free solder if you have it available.
With some headers the heat of the soldering is enough to allow the pin to be pulled through the plastic without slicing it, no idea if true for a Pi4, probably not.
