SDK • Re: [resolved] Run fails in Pico Extension on Windows, picotool driver issue - needed Zadig to install winusb

The Getting Started with Pico said Windows should have no dependencies. But do I need a Zadig driver anyway?
It does say that but I believe you do need the Zadiq driver or some other way to ensure WinUSB is the driver used for the "RP2 Boot" device.

It does describe how to install that prerequisite so I would class it as a documentation issue, incomplete or potentially misleading.

I would have thought it should be possible to have the WinUSB driver automatically associated with the 'RP2 Boot' interface 'picotool' uses so you wouldn't need to use Zadig but wouldn't know how.

Anyway, glad you got it sorted.
To recap, the Getting Started with Raspberry Pi Pico-series has these instructions for the vs code extension:
Chapter 3. Install the Raspberry Pi Pico VS Code Extension The Raspberry Pi Pico VS Code extension helps you create, develop, run, and debug projects in Visual Studio Code. It includes a project generator with many templating options, automatic toolchain management, one click project compilation, and offline documentation of the Pico SDK. The VS Code extension supports all Raspberry Pi Pico-series devices. 3.1. Install Dependencies 3.1.1. Raspberry Pi OS and Windows No dependencies needed.
But it is Appendix B that covers picotool and Zadig. I found that reference later.

This sort of thing is why I avoid Windows, lol.
