Troubleshooting • Re: Pi Zero unable to connect to a Pi 5 access point

Are either of the two devices in metal cases? They can weaken the signal massively and may make it completely unusable. If that's the case. Remove the case(s) and try again

Is there any wireless interference? e.g bluetooth, baby monitors, Wireless HIDs. If so...turn off/move them away.

Is the Wifi Channel that you are using congested? Try changing the channel.

Are there any obstructions between the devices...e.g walls/fish tanks (Radio signals don't travel well through water)

20m is quite a long way for WiFi to operate. IIRC, the rated distance is something like 35m...But my own experience is that in practice; that's often rather optimistic. Does the problem go away moving the devices closer together?
