Beginners • motionEyeOS camera switch

Hey all, was wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to have a sensor/switch activate a camera connected to a pi0w, rather than running constantly or motion activation? The idea would be to have the switch/sensor attached to a gate, and to trigger the nearby camera when the gate is opened.
