That's quite strange of a bus. Although VCC is 5V, it is some kind of open collector working at 3.3 V (bus) - 3.5 V (terminal), with low impedance (200/480 Ohm divider from 5V) and high sink currents (16/48 mA).

I would stick with those tranceivers, it looks like they can work directly with Pico at 3.5 V.
Or you can try LXS0108E at the same voltage on both sides, but still the currents can be pretty high.

In this case you really need an oscilloscope to see what's happening there.
