Yes, it is definitely an 'Official 7" Raspberry Pi Touchscreen'.
I have a few of them purchased not long after they became available (2017?).
Is it possible that the initialisation for the screen (presumably including the default backlight setting) does not always run to completion?
I thought there was an issue with it, because there is a flickering in the top right corner of the display, but I suspect that is the result of the screen's Rotor function. It is spinning quite quickly (the timer reports a SpeedFactor of 1.51, so tomorrow I will look more closely at the code and check to make sure that is what's happening.
I may raise the issue of the backlight in the Hardware/Touch screen part of the forum to see if an engineer can shed any light on it (no pun intended).
