Those devices aren't actually "off" though are they? They are in standby mode. Usually you can turn such devices back on using a remote.

You don't need an LED for a power button to work. There's no need for a standby mode. My multi block has a power button on it; yet draws absolutely no power when switched off. The LED is only on when the switch is on.
