It's working. thank you immensely. Had to do some more thinkin' which I am not good at.

I assumed wf-panel-pi.ini did not exist. Sooo I started with a blank mousepad screen and pasted:

# automatically hide when pointer isn't over the panel
autohide=true
# time in milliseconds to wait before hiding
autohide_duration=500
# layer can be top, bottom, overlay or background
layer=top
launcher_000004=firefox.desktop

into it. Saved it to desktop. Tried to move it to .config and was warned it existed. HUH?? Yep there it was. So, instead, I opened THAT one and pasted the above into the bottom of that file. Saved it, rebooted and now having a beer. I misunderstood when you said:

mousepad opens the file that already is there.
